Marias Healthcare Services Inc. is proudly providing vision and dental health screenings in Shelby, MT schools for the 2023-24 year. The screening will involve a visual inspection only. There will be no X-rays or films taken.

After the screening, your child will receive a form that will indicate one of the following:

  • No obvious vision/dental treatment is needed
  • Early vision/dental care may be needed
  • Vision/dental problems were noted that require immediate attention

Parents, please inform your child's teacher if you prefer not to have your child screened.

Preliminary vision and dental health screenings can give your child an advantage. By detecting potential problems early, you can prevent costly and sometimes painful problems from developing. Additionally, many visual health problems can affect your child's ability to learn, holding them back academically.

However, we recognize every parent's right to refuse this screening. If you don't want your child to be screened, please inform their teacher beforehand.

The screenings can help you get a better idea of better understand your child's overall oral health. They can also help you determine if your child needs emergency dental care within the next 24 hours or minor dental care within several weeks.

To prevent tooth decay, we recommend supervising your child while they brush their teeth. We also recommend a fluoride varnish every six months.

Please note that our dental screenings should not take the place of or replace routine dental examinations. Your child should continue to visit a dentist every six months.
